All Eyes on Threads - Ellen Greene Tattooed Gloves -

I know you feel cold and winter is not over yet, but don’t take these gloves for your new winter fashion item. Not wearable. Only art. With this fabulous piece of work, Ellen Greene explores the contrast between two opposing traditions. The lady like vintage leather glove vs. tattoos being more of a masculine art form. She says the gloves represent purity, modesty and formality while traditional tattoo can easily suggest freedom, rebellion and criminality. The tension between the two subjects creates this really unique beauty. The type of beauty I definitely like. The concept is really genius! I really enjoy when arts go further than just a painting or drawing and really have a meaning to it.

Aux yeux de l’artiste, les gants représentent la pureté, la modestie et la formalité alors que le tatouage traditionnel nous ramène vers la liberté, la rébellion et la criminalité. La tension entre les deux sujets crée cette beauté unique. Le type de beauté j’affectionne particulièrement. Le concept est vraiment génial! J’adore l’art qui va plus loin qu’une simple peinture ou dessin et à laquelle on peut attribuer un sens.

Yesterday, it was the birthday of one of my favorite artist. I like her art for a long time now and I had the chance to recently meet her in person at one of our girls night out! NO disappointment, she is just like what her art reflects! Most of her work manage to pleased both sides of my personality; the princess who can beat the hell out of you! And I think this can describe her as well. I also really enjoy the cynical aspect of her work who flirts with a dark kind of humor. Zema is the kind of girl who can take up different types of challenges. As a multidisciplinary artist, she can easily indulge in duties of artistic director or spray cans on a concrete wall. What an inspiration she is!

Hier, c’était l’anniversaire d’une de mes artistes favorites. J’apprécie ses oeuvres depuis déjà longtemps et j’ai récemment eu la chance de la rencontrer en personne à l’une de nos soirées de filles. AUCUNE déception, elle est ce que son art reflète! La plupart de ses oeuvres réussissent à plaire aux deux facettes de ma personnalité; La petite princesses qui peut botter bien des derrières si nécessaire! Et je crois bien, que cette phrase la décrit tout autant. Le côté cynique, une sorte d’humour sombre, de ses pièces vient tout autant me chercher. Zema est le genre de fille à qui on peut lancer différent type de défis. Étant une artiste multi-disciplinaire, elle peut facilement se complaire dans des tâches de directrice artistique qu’à bombarder de peinture un mur de béton. Une inspiration quoi!

Recently I had the chance to meet with two wonderful tattoo artists, Cat Bijou and Vero from Tattoo Mania II. Both talented, funny and with an amazing personality, I instantly connected with those two tattooed ladies. In a previous post I introduced you to Vero’s pin-ups and now it is time for you to get introduce to Bijou’s art. Tattooing for more than 8 years, she is influenced by her traveling, the surf culture, metal music, street art and the artistic people who crosses her path. As you can see in the pictures above, her style is really influenced by traditional American. Let her work speaks for itself and charmed you!
